The Internet of Things (IoT) is gaining more ground each year and some experts project there will be 75 billion connected devices by 2025. The IoT can be described as things or devices that “talk” to each other. From smartphones and smart fridges to light bulbs and switches – it gives the opportunity for devices to communicate not only within close silos but across different networking types and creates a much more connected world.
In cases where connection to the Internet via Wi-Fi or cellular technology are ineffective, installing smart devices in rural or certain indoor locations can be challenging. The answer could be LoRa Technology which is a long range, low power wireless platform based on wireless radio frequency technology and offers fully featured IoT solutions with minimum effort. Its long range is particularly useful for rural areas, with low power requirements and lower cost due to reduced infrastructure investment, battery replacement expense, and operating expenses.
The LoRa network according to Semtech, can solve some of the biggest challenges facing our planet: energy management, natural resource reduction, pollution control, infrastructure efficiency, disaster prevention, and more. Semtech’s LoRa devices and the LoRaWAN protocol have, they claim, amassed several hundred known uses cases for smart cities, smart homes and buildings, smart agriculture, smart metering, smart supply chain and logistics, and more.
Kern’s Smart locker solutions are used throughout the world with many different uses. Our Smart City, Smart BOPIS (buy online pick up in store) and Smart Pudo (Pick up drop off), Smart Living and Smart Tracking solutions serve everything from Retail, Offices, Universities, Residential Buildings, Logistics and Food Service. Our Smart lockers continue to deliver a flexible technology package which allows our solution to adapt to changing business dynamics and requirements across many industries and organisations.
The latest addition to the product range are our LoRa BLE (Bluetooth Low Energy) lockers. These Smart lockers using LoRa technology are ideal for today’s logistics and public health challenges, and can be located in areas with no electrical connection or Internet.
Kern LoRa BLE lockers are ideally suited for rolling out to residential areas for example, or more rural locations where there is a need for a secure delivery and collection service but without the need for connection to an electricity supply, as they run on batteries that last around 18 months depending on the climate conditions. Not only that, but they can be operated without the need to interact with a screen simply by using an app on your smartphone. The only contact with the terminal is when closing the door.
Kern Smart locker software technology provides a global and modern solution for multiple kinds of business and end user ecosystems or business applications, like e-commerce players, retailers, banks, industries, logistic companies or local shops. It is based on a large modular portfolio of components and package solutions that help us to cover all requirements in terms of workflow process, security, and compliance to suit rapidly changing customer environments. The provision of a tailor-made integration is an important part of the global Kern offering. Shop & Collect airport service, lost and found objects, ID card management to name but a few are proven and successful examples to meet specific requirements.
