The inaugural Bakers’ & Butchers’ Spring Fair has been hailed a success after hundreds of visitors were welcomed to the event last Sunday (7th April).

The Spring Fair, which took place at the Three Counties Showground in Malvern, Worcestershire, saw the bakers’ and butchers’ events combined into a single show for the first time. In light of the big merger, organisers British Baker and the Meat Trades Journal set about creating a large-scale event with big name guests, including star of ‘Celebrity Masterchef’ Christine Hamilton.

The TV presenter and author was on hand to present a baking and butchery masterclass to gathered delegates made up largely of professional and amateur cooks, bakersandbutchersfair.co.uk reports. She was joined for the display by Russell Allen, managing director of butchers Aubrey Allen, and Mike Holling, chairman of the National Association of Master Bakers.

Hamilton also presented awards on the day to winners of the event’s bakery competition, which came with prizes including trips to California and Las Vegas.

Elsewhere at the show, Celebration Cake Maker of the Year award winner Sandra Monger gave a sugarcraft masterclass, whilst supply chain managers took a Q&A session on the recent horsemeat scandal.

The Bakers’ and Butchers’ Fair will return this autumn, moving to the Yorkshire Event Centre in Harrogate for Sunday 27th October, bakeryinfo.co.uk reports. Special guests and individual shows will be announced closer to the date.
